Overview

Manual inspection supports a PDF view where sequence execution instructions or other relevant information can be displayed for operators in the production line. This article will explain how to upload or reference PDF, and how to assign them to steps in the Manual Inspection. Editing manual inspection sequences is done in the Production Manager (Control Panel > process & production > Production Manager)

Adding / uploading PDF documents

To upload PDF documents to a manual Inspection sequence, the sequence needs to be in Draft mode. Select the MI sequence you want to edit, and open the Instructions (PDF) tab. To add new documents, use the Add-button or drag and drop your PDFs into the list. Once the document is added to the list, it will be available in the sequence designer.

Assigning PDF to a sequence or a step

To assign a PDF to one or more steps of a manual inspection sequence, open the WWF designer. You can  choose to assign the PDFs to the sequence, or to individual steps, using the setup-button for the sequence or the step. In the Media URL field, you can choose to select your uploaded PDFs from a dropdown, or type in the URL linking to your PDF. 

Supported URL-paths

• Supports HTTP/HTTPS:
• Supports websites behind basic authentication
• Supports UNC paths (e.g. \\Server\Folder\FileName.FileExtension):

Public HTTP/HTTPS files and websites with basic authentication

Files fetched from an HTTP/HTTPS path required the path to return the raw PDF file. This means that you are not able to insert a PDF wrapped into a PDF-viewer or similar scenarios. A few examples of public PDFs and the syntax is listed below:

Google disk:
https://drive.google.com/uc?id=YOUR_DOCUMENT_ID

Public raw PDF
https://www.w3.org/WAI/ER/tests/xhtml/testfiles/resources/pdf/dummy.pdf

If the public file is password protected, you need to provide credentials in the WWF designer

UNC paths with password-protection 

There are two ways to access password-protected files on a shared system. The most reliable and best solution is to grant the machine that hosts the WATS server (on-prem) access to the file location specified in the UNC path. 

If you're not able to grant the WATS machine access, the user name and password must be provided in the input field in the WWF designer. This can be done by clicking the credentials icon next to the Media URL input.

Please note that WATS does not support domain user names at this time. The user name, therefore, has to be a local user with access to the shared location.
