Effective from the 2016.1 release (January 2016), WATS will no longer support SQL Server 2008 nor SQL Server 2008 R2. Microsoft ended mainstream support for SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 on July 8 2014. In addition, SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2014 introduce several new features, which may improve performance when implemented.
SQL Server Standard edition ISV license is included in WATS support and maintenance, and unless the customer requests otherwise Virinco upgrades SQL Server to SQL Server 2014 Standard Edition.
From this release, the supported versions of SQL Server will be:
- SQL Server 2012 Standard
- SQL Server 2012 Enterprise
- SQL Server 2012 Business Intelligence
- SQL Server 2014 Standard
- SQL Server 2014 Enterprise
- SQL Server 2014 Business Intelligence
SQL Server Business Intelligence and Enterprise edition is not included in WATS support and maintenance.
SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2014 are supported on the following versions of Windows Server:
- Windows Server 2008 SP2 and later
- Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and later
- Windows Server 2012
- Windows Server 2012 R2
As a long-term solution, and due to performance optimizations, Virinco AS strongly recommends SQL Server 2014.
In a replicated environment, the subscriber version must be less than or equal to the publisher version. Due to this limitation, the publisher must be upgraded first.
