The following article describes the features of the Step chart view in Step details. For an intro to Step details see this article.
Overview
The Step Chart View enables you to analyse chart data for your selected steps with ease. It offers two primary modes—Aggregated and Individuals—to balance the need for detailed analysis with optimal performance when working with large datasets. This view allows you to compare discrepancies across multiple steps simultaneously while providing intuitive tools to highlight and control the visibility of the data most relevant to your analysis.
The toolbar
Side menu
On the left side of the chart, you'll find a side menu designed to help you highlight, show, or hide data items within the chart. This menu slides in from the left and provides access to two selectors: the Plot selector and the Unit selector, each tailored for efficient data management and visualization.
Plot selector
The chart displays series for minimum, average, maximum, and standard deviation values for each plot as well as the plots themselves. These series are managed through the Plot Selector, where the series names are first listed flat at the top for easy access. Below, the series are then organized hierarchically: the first level groups them by step name, and within each step, the second level groups them by plot name. This two-level structure allows for intuitive navigation and control over the visibility of the data.
Unit selector
Clicking the "Units" icon in the side menu opens the Unit Selector, which displays all serial numbers included in the loaded dataset. Hovering over a serial number will highlight all plot lines associated with that serial number. You can also toggle the visibility of these affiliated plot lines by checking or unchecking the corresponding checkbox.
View modes
To balance detailed analysis with optimal performance, the Step Chart View offers two distinct modes. You can easily switch between these modes using the "Type" dropdown menu in the toolbar.
Individuals
In "Individuals" mode, all data points are displayed on the chart. Additionally, if selected in the Plot selector in the side menu, series representing the minimum, average, maximum, and standard deviation values will also be shown.
Clicking on a plot line will open the associated report for that data.
Aggregated
In Aggregated mode, all data points within a plot are grouped by their x-value, with the minimum, average, maximum, and standard deviation values calculated and displayed in the chart. This mode is ideal for quickly identifying discrepancies and extremes, while also offering improved performance when analysing large datasets.
